My little place on the internet...
This is my blog with personal and technical articles. My Blog for me is primarily a playground to do somethings with the server I have running via my DSL connection. And in my humble opinion it looks better every time I tinker with it.
SLAX 6
I’ve been a SLAX fan for a long time now and have had it installed on a USB memory stick since ages. Now SLAX version 6 release candidate 3 has been released and I’ve installed that one on my memory stick. I really like the big improvements Thomas has put in it. Except for one thing. I’m almost certain that Thomas is not a vi user. In previous versions of SLAX vi was also missing and I made a module for this no with the new module system I created a vi module again. If anybody wants it you can download it below, just put it in your modules directory and it gets loaded automatically.
If by accident Thomas is reading my post still have two suggestions for him for SLAX. Try to make use of the modularity of SLAX it’s one of the key features so don’t try to make a base system with not 8 modules but try make more to allow people to load certain modules and leave others out. And second make it so that not everything is run as root. As live Linux systems have a default user and you can elevate rights on a console with su.
But still in my opinion this is one of the best portable/live Linux distributions.;

Panoramio: planned acquisition by Google
I just found in my inbox a mail send to me by Panoramio. In this mail Panoramio announced the news about the planned acquisition by Google. This makes a lot of sence based on the fact that there is already intergration of Panoramio in Google Earth and Panoramio makes use of other Google services.

A lousy foundation
A colleague of mine pointed me the site from the ‘Kamer van Koophandel’ which is the Dutch Chamber of Commerce. This is a record of a Foundation that is not very good in there task. The National Bankruptcy Prevention Institute Foundation has the status Bankrupt. This must be very sour for them.

ScrapBook Firefox extension
For some reason I have seem to have missed out on this great extension but today after finding the Scrapbook extension while stumbling across the net I’ve ditched my Google notebook and furl account for it.
This ScrapBook extension for Firefox is in my opinion a must have for everyone that uses the Internet for research in some way or an other. In the past all article clippings that I wanted to keep I put Furl and after the introduction of Google notebook I put it there.
ScrapBook saves pages or bits of it with notes if you want locally on your computer along the the original URL. Organizing can be done in folders, highlighting text with a virtual marker and adding notes.
If you also like to install this check out the site at http://amb.vis.ne.jp/mozilla/scrapbook/
